‘Cleaning the coast is our commitment’: Bengal ministers sweep Gangasagar beach post-mela

In a symbolic gesture underscoring the message “cleaning the coast is our commitment,” six West Bengal ministers personally took part in a cleanliness drive at Gangasagar after the conclusion of the annual mela. Holding brooms, the ministers joined sanitation efforts on the beach, stepping beyond their administrative roles to clear the shoreline.

The Gangasagar Mela, which draws millions of devotees, left behind large volumes of waste, including plastic items, thermocol plates, food packets and other debris scattered across the fairground and beach area. The administration aimed to restore normal conditions swiftly after the pilgrimage ended, and the ministers’ participation was seen as reinforcing that objective.

Those present at the drive included Power and Housing Minister Arup Biswas, Sundarbans Development Minister Bankim Chandra Hazra, Public Health and Technology Minister Pulak Roy, Agriculture and Marketing Minister Becharam Manna, Transport Minister Snehasis Chakraborty, and Fire Services Minister Sujit Bose, who all contributed to the cleanup effort.
